Bilbaína de Alquitranes - Company - Business Activities
Bilbaína de Alquitranes, S.A. (BASA) focuses its activity on the fractioned distillation of coal tar, using two facilities:
- - Continuous distillation plant.
- - Discontinuous distillation plant.
The same process is carried out in both facilities, and the reason for their co-existence is simply to provide flexibility in production.
As a result of the coal tar distillation process, several products are obtained:
- - Pitch, mainly used in the aluminum and graphite industry.
- - Naphthalene, a product that can be used for many different things such as dyes, superplasticizers, etc.
- - Special tars, for obtaining waterproofing materials, refractories, etc.
- - Creosotes, used in the treatment of wood.
- - Oils mainly for the manufacture of carbon black, and other derivatives.
